Taking the temperature of ancient Earth

A team of researchers, including scientists from Earth and Planetary Sciences in Arts & Sciences, has been able to reconstruct both ocean temperature and general ice thickness of massive glaciers during one of the biggest mass extinctions in history hundreds of millions of years ago. The finding will help reveal clues about the interplay between evolution, climate and environment.  FULL STORY

Study abroad program bridges St. Louis and Shanghai

Bridging St. Louis and Shanghai and expanding the scope of WUSTL’s academic programs beyond the Danforth Campus, a new study abroad program is being launched at Fudan University. Aimed at examining Chinese language, culture and society, and the role of China in global and historical contexts, the comprehensive educational program is scheduled to begin in fall 2011. Engineers receive annual alumni awards

The School of Engineering & Applied Science’s Alumni Achievement Awards dinner was held in Whitaker Hall Feb. 23, preceded by a reception in Brauer Hall for the five recipients. Three alumni received Alumni Achievement Awards, one was given the Young Alumni Award and one was honored with the Dean’s Award. FULL STORY

  • Softball begins spring break trip. The No. 19 softball team tuned up for a spring break trip by capturing the Warrior Spring Fling tournament in Conway, Ark., last weekend with a 7-6 eight-inning win over Hendrix College. Tomorrow, the team begins a six-day, 10-game swing through Florida. The Bears open University Athletic Association play Thursday, March 10, against No. 20 Emory University in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
